Gems From The Heart
Stuart Pool and Monica Stephenson
At the heart of the program is the Tanzania Women Miners Association (TAWOMA). Supporting them is Pact, ANZA Gems, Nineteen48, Everledger, and you, international consumers seeking to change the world with us. Working together, each partner covers a specific part of the supply chain. Pact and TAWOMA manage in-country operations, whilst Everledger organizes digital traceability capabilities, and trading companies ANZA Gems and Nineteen48 work with our exporter to provide wholesale gems to leading designers and jewelers.
To find out where to buy finished jewelry featuring Moyo Gems, please see our list of designer & jeweler partners. Moyo Gems are now available at retail locations in the USA, UK, and Europe, and worldwide via these partners' online presence.
Moyo Gems is a responsible miner-to-market gemstone collaboration born in East Africa. We are working with the women artisanal gem miners (and their male allies!) in Tanzania and Kenya to track rubies, sapphires, tourmaline, garnets, citrines, and amethysts, from miner to market.
We work to empower women miners to work safely, mine better, improve financial security, and create stable, equitable markets for fair trade.
What's behind a name?
Moyo means 'heart' in Kiswahili (the dominant language in Tanzania and Kenya) and in a few other languages around the African continent.
That's why we call Moyo Gems 'gems from the heart'.
How do I buy the gems?
Please click here to get to the buying page. All Moyo Gems are sold wholesale via our program partners: Nineteen48, ANZA Gems, Maison Piat, and the Tanzanian Women Miners Association (see below!)
We have a small pilot program underway with mid and lower-value gems with the Tanzanian Women Miners Association (TAWOMA). However, for high-end and ultra-high end gems, please contact ANZA, Nineteen48, or Maison Piat.
