My name is Juliana Posada Lopera, mother and small-scale miner from Colombia. I am one of the first women trained as a mining rescue worker in Colombia. I am an agronomist engineer and specialist in agro-industrial management and development.
I am currently working on the family agro-mining project "La Gabriela". La Gabriela is a Fairmined certified mine. I am in charge of administrative, technical and environmental processes. I also help with complementary processes such as beekeeping, cocoa and rubber plantation. I am part of the SG-SST group and actively participate at the emergency brigade as coordinator of heights, and safe work in confined spaces.
GO GLOBAL WITH PLANETGOLD
With my participation, I would like other people, especially from the jeweler to learn more about our work at the mine sites. Jewellery does not start when it is in the shops.
Jewellery starts when people like me are working the land to extract the minerals that will create memorable stories. In my presentation, I will talk about the challenges and opportunities we have in our small mine located in Colombia. We are a family that provides formal employment for 12 people. In addition to mining, we work in other agricultural activities such as beekeeping, rubber and cocoa.
